Project No. 1
A Journey of Hope and Awareness
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month in May, we embarked on Project #1: a relay run from Dallas to Austin.
This journey wasn't just about covering miles; it was about raising awareness and funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to bring hope to those impacted by suicide.
We united in this mission to support mental health, honor loved ones, and make a difference
On May 24, 2024, at 9 PM, 12 dedicated charity runners, along with a media team of three, embarked on an extraordinary journey for Say Less Project #1. This impactful event accomplished the following:
236+ miles ran over 33 consecutive hours
$4,100+ raised for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (pending funds from company matching)
$2,295 raised to support the charity runners' journey from Dallas to Austin
11,826 unique Instagram accounts reached through @saylessprojects during the run
Why We Ran: The Stark Reality of Suicide in America
94% of adults surveyed in the U.S. think suicide can be prevented
Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in the United States.
In 2022, 49,476 Americans died by suicide.
There were an estimated 1.6 million suicide attempts in 2022.
On average, 130 individuals die by suicide each day.
Men are nearly four times more likely to die by suicide than women.
Firearms are the most common method, accounting for 52.83% of all suicide deaths.
These statistics highlight the critical need for awareness and prevention efforts. Our relay run from Dallas to Austin was dedicated to raising funds and awareness for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, striving to bring hope to those affected by suicide and work towards a future where mental health is prioritized and stigma is erased.
